Dear Friends,

There is a song that we used to sing in our senior high fellowship days, part of which goes like this:

“The Church is not a building,
The Church is not a steeple,
The Church is not a resting place
The Church is the people.

I am the Church
You are the Church
We are the Church together.
All who follow Jesus all around the world,
Yes, we’re the Church together!”

That song describes the belief and attitude and witness of the people of Sion Presbyterian Church since its founding in 1787. The first building for the Sion congregation was not constructed until 1810 on Garden Street in the center of our cemetery. But the Church of Sion had already been meeting together for at least 23 years bearing their witness in Winnsboro, praying for each other and serving the needs of the community.

That witness and service and prayerful intercession has continued to be the character of the congregation to this day. Many brothers and sisters in Christ, parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have preceded us to establish a pattern of love and Christian brotherhood. We are grateful for the legacy and traditions they have passed on to us. We cherish the faith and character, which has influenced and molded our witness today. It is our hope and prayer that we might continue to pass on to generations yet to come the rich heritage of the Congregation of Sion Presbyterian Church, which happens to meet in this place on Washington Street in the heart of Winnsboro.

Those pictured on the following pages and those not pictured have identified themselves with Sion, affirmed their faith in and commitment to serve in the name of Jesus Christ those who need the love and care and peace of our Savior. I and my family feel personally blessed to have been received and included as a part of the congregation of Sion. We pray that God our Father will continue to bless our ministry and service together. And if you have just seen who we are in this directory, and desire to join with us in our journey of faith, we invite you in the name of Jesus Christ to come and be a part of Sion’s witness here and throughout the world.
